This time it was a testimonial participation, it was not possible to organize everything well with enough time. No inband stations and some bands had to be shared with the same operator. Thanks to everyone for calling us. |
EI2KC |
Operated casually in the contest, in a non-competitive spirit. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Antennas used were dipoles for 80/40/20 and an Antron 99 for 15/10. Loved using a mixture of CW and phone, as I have spent too much time on FT8 lately. Conditions were reasonably good for a wires/vertical station like mine. Some nice action was had on 10 metres, although I have to admit to missing out on 40 metres at the crucial time. Was happy to make over 350 QSOs and quite glad to "hand out points" to other stations. For CW, I used my home-brew hacksaw blade key which made it even more enjoyable. Radio is an Icom IC-7300. Selectivity was quite sufficient on a crowded 20m band. Anthony EI2KC, Drogheda, Ireland. |

It's been a while I entered this contest seriously since 2014. But took a rest for about 3 hours during the contest after my first shot of the Covid-19 vaccine just before the contest. Thanks to many domestic contacts I did work so-so/well with a good sporadic E on high bands just for using no beam. Wkd 282 JA contacts(45.6% of the whole QSOs, one point contact), so pts/Q's is not high(2.5). Some nice surprises on some bands. On 10m wkd & hrd only one EU(OF2HQ) in the morning! and also only one NA(W1AW/KL7) late afternoon(hrd the signal until in the evening for hours). Nice to work P44W on 40m for my first Caribbean using three bands (160/80/40m) Inv.V. @12mtrs. Mni tnx OM! John! Vy tough on 80/160m due to high QRN. K3CCR is the club station at the Collington continuing-care retirement community at FM 18OW in MD, just east of DC. N3UM and W3GB operated Multi-1 HP in the July 2021 IARU contest. Our goal was to beat our best result, in 2020. We did that in 91% as many BIC hrs, with 81% as many Q pts but 126% as many mults, to claim a 2% higher score. More mults and fewer Q pts came because the C3 for 10 & 15 M was OK in 2021 but bad in 2020. We did what has worked best for us in IARU; do mostly CW on 40 and 20 M, and get lots of HQ mults and 5-pt Qs. For the first 15 hrs. 12-03Z we alternated 2.5-hr. shifts. This let us rest, eat, do chores, and come back fresh. On 20 M 12-13Z N3UM ran for 75 Qs and 15 Zn but no HQ mults, then clicked spots for 32 Qs and 24 HQ mults. Next shift 1430-17Z W3GB did 15 M and 20 M CW, and tried 20 M SSB (slow), for 34 Qs and 22 mults. At 17Z we had 139 Qs, 371 pts, and 62 mults. N3UM clicked spots 17-1930Z for 62 CW Qs, 53 on 20 and 9 on 15 M, plus 13 HQ mults. W3GB 1930-22Z clicked on 4 bands for 20 CW Qs each on 10 and 15 M, 6 SSB Qs on 10 M, and 11 CW Qs on 20 and 40 M. Wow, 25 HQ mults and 12 Zn in 57 Qs. From 22-0030Z N3UM ran for 121 of 152 Qs and 23 HQ mults on 40 M CW. He got 90 Qs 23-00Z, our best hour. From 0030-0240Z W3GB got 70 Qs on 40 M, then 7 on 20 M by 0250Z. In the last shift till QRT to sleep, N3UM got 19 HQ mults and 98 CW Qs; 63 on 80 M 0255- 0406Z, 20 in a run, then 13 on 160 M, 4 more on 80 M, and 18 on 40 M by 0512Z, when rate died. W3GB came in at dawn 1042-1157Z and got 33 CW Qs on 15 M and 7 on 20 M, all in EU but 9G in AF, for 148 Q pts and 13 HQ mults to get just past our 2020 claim. |

This was a part-time, shakedown cruise for my new "local remote" setup with a position in my home office, excitement, I installed a new Netgear afternoon on a new subnet. Hey, I said it was cruise, right :-) 6600M was its remote capability. Smart SDR on my office desktop, with N1MM+ amp/tuner/rotator/antenna switch applets also running locally. ethernet to hour of hit-or-miss software on my remote PC, the one tried both RealVNC and Google Remote Desktop PC's desktop. The free RealVNC client can show both remote monitors, an important consideration with N1MM+ taking up one the free RealVNC also can show multiple audio to my office PC. However, Desktop was very heavy compared to VNC - 35% But... the screen refresh was much smoother, and handle it, so I settled on Google Remote Desktop. thing I noticed was the lack of a CW sidetone from N1MM+, was disconcerting. A Google search led me to connect a stereo a USB Then I used remote PC audio to my including CW sidetone. on my office PC, with a NuMark DJGO2 the Flex. This works great. My Maestro is on back the Midi controller really gives you most (all) of what you need built-in display). watching the receive slice move across remote PC desktop was faster than clicking "next spot" in that no time was wasted listening where N1MM showed a spot but with the Flex, and have a KPA1500 on order. I could what I heard with 450W, so the 1500 is probably overkill for my little extra Saturday on 20M and for the couple of hours I was operating vs. messing with configurations, the bands were moderately afternoon. Not superb conditions, time on 40 in the evening, and it was open nicely as the Americas. Sunday morning was a bit of 80 and the rest on 40M dipole add-on to enter CW+SSB but ended up doing CW-only, deciding "fiddlilng around vs operating" ratio was already too high. local remote! |

Log entries are correct to the best of my knowledge. However, I did experience an antenna system issue that possibly caused me to incorrectly assess whether some contacts were completed. The SWR changed during some transmissions, leaving the noise floor significanlty elevated after transmission, which obscured the received signals. Typically that was resolved by retuning (which took only a few seconds), but by then the contacted station had moved on. If both of us had sent the exchange, I logged the contact, essentially assuming the other station would still be looking for confirmation if my exchange info was not received. Thus it is possible my log contains some contacts that are not in the other station's log. There is just no way for me to be sure within the time window for submitting my log. |

QRP, just ONE HALF WATT to a 20 Foot wire out the window. This was a part-time effort. Conditions were not what I had hoped. I operated when I could, and managed a few contacts. I heard a LOT of Europe on 20 meters in the evening, but unlike some recent evenings, they were NOT hearing me. I probably should have run 5W, but I traditionally run 1/2W in this contest and usually do better than I did this year. Disappointing conditions, but still fun on the CW bands. This was my first IARU HF contest using my remote station in southern Quebec. Propagation is certainly a bit different compared to my operations from the suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts! Remote is definitely another experience. George VA2EBI-W1EBI |
VA2GN |
I operated the IARU contest from a remote, solar powered off-grid station. I regret that this log has been submitted after the deadline due to the fact that I have been offline and unable to comply. If it helps, please consider this a check log. 73 Dave VE3TLY/VA2GN |

10m a big disappointment, 80 very noisy although good opening to South America. Nothing whatsoever heard on 160. |

My first IARU championship. Very cool. |
W0ZW |
Lots of activity to be found on CW (except 160, where I worked only one station). Interesting propagation. 10m was open at 8:00 AM local, but favored EU rather than the usual SA path. 20m was open to EU late into the night. The Pacific region opened much later than I expected but with a notable lack of JAs. Maybe they were all at the Olympic games. The highlight for me was working D4Z on 10m, a new one on that band. Your NA 28 MHz antenna is loud in New Mexico, guys! |

After a hiatus because of "someone" called MarÃa and a loss of rigs during the pandemic, returned to the IARU contest. Although to work on Saturday I can attest that conditions on 15, 20 and 40 meters are rising. Did about 70 QSO's and many HQ's. Interestingly some contacts were made during the nighttime when normally the bands closed at 7pm AST, so welcome Cycle 25! |

Band conditions quite favourable on Saturday, best I have heard for many a year. However, just the opposite on Sunday. Difficult to copy call signs at times. |
ZL2AGY |
A bit of a slog at times, but as always great to take part. Conditions could still do with some improving - it's hard work sometimes breaking the pile-ups from "down-under." Hopefully we'll all do it again next year, and my thanks to everyone who worked me. Everyone stay safe. |
