Fun contest - tricky from England with 50W and Attic dipole

3D2AG   [photo/doc]
Exciting contest with good conditions on the higher bands; done entirely with a 'CQ Ham Radio Vega'
limited edition manual CW paddle, IC-7300 radio, Heil headset and ACOM 600S linear and paper log (no
computer or interface used). Antenna was a multi-band Windom wire.

9A1TT
Remote operation from 9A1TT by F5SNJ (who's still a beginner at
CW contesting!). After quite a few latency/jitter issues testing
before the contest, I decided to go with N1MM rather than DXLog
because the Winkeyer appeared more reliable. I didn't look back!
Everything performed vitually flawlessly. Quite good LP opening
on Sunday. Sincere thanks to station and callsign owner Richard
9A1TT, as well as to the RHR team. I was running 99.5% of the
time, so need to improve S&P, especially for mults.

Thanks for everyone's great ears and antennas copying my 5W QRP

AC4G
Decided to spend time Friday night on 80 and 169m. Spent lots of
time searching for signals. Signals on 160m were weaker than
expected at my QTH, but was able to work many. Saturday had good
run going until my amp bit thedust. Took time searching for
cables, but finally found tube in amp faulty, so began using my
backup amp which worked great the rest of the contest. Sunday
conditions were not good with lousy propagation and lots of noise
on all bands. Endured the noise and picked up my best total for
this contest at my QTH. Thanks for all of the QSOs and to the DX
that spent time working the contest. It would not have been as
good without the contesters worlwide participating in this great
event.

One of my favourite contests, my thanks to everyone who worked me. Elected to do SOSB 15m LP, which
turned out to be a good decision as conditions were really good. Sunday was a struggle to find new
multipliers, but breaking the wall of KW EU stations to work VE5 with my 100W was probably the most
satisfying one!

Thanks the organizers for the contest and all who dug my qrp sigs
out of the noise. This year it was only a part-time endeavour due
to the heavy hurricane hitting the north, which prevented to lift
the antennas during the first part of the contest. Afterwards, at
least some antennas could partly be raised. Anyway, it was great
to see 15 m back to life which compensated for the poor and noisy
conditions on the low bands the second night. 10 m was dead here
in the north.

As usual I had no spare time to make a full entry but managed odd
periods over the weekend. 160m was very poor on Sunday. No contacts on
10m but the other bands seemed very good. Only 100 watts to low
di0oles here so always amazed to be heard over the Pond!

G4BUO
One of my favourite contests of the year though I was not in a
position to do a full entry, and I only have wire antennas. Nice
conditions on 160 the first morning, but HF conditions were really
not good and I never caught any of the brief openings on 10m.
Great to work many old friends.

G4ENZ
Some very good stations around to hear my 20W. Lots of fun.

G6M
Due to several named storms I had to lower my antenna's to their safe level.
This and other weather related events stopped me from taking effective part in the contest.
It gave me a chance to try one or two changes to my way of using N1MM+.
The multplier window was found to be especially useful. So must make more use of it in future events.

G6XX
We had bad storm conditions in England with high winds, snow and very
heavy rain starting just before the weekend and continuing throughout.
There are also more storms ahead of us. In the contest, 10m was
disappointing here with only three QSOs. 15m and 20m were both good.
40m, 80m and 160m were average. Overall the contest was fun but the
weather was a continual worry.

G8N
Storm Eunice went through this part of the UK over Friday night/Saturday morning so the antenna was
not in place until 0900 UTC, therefore missed the first nine hours of the contest.

After a tough week with a lot of traveling and little sleep, I decided to participate in a "lighter"
category than usual.
I defined the achievable target: beat the current Swiss 20m record

The HB9NE station performed nicely, according to the online results I was doing very well; at 5PM on
Saturday I realized that I had already achieved my target, so I stopped and enjoyed sleep & company
in the shack for the rest of the weekend.

Hope I'll be able to do it again next year, hopefully fully rested..

I ran 100w to either a Windom or a Cushcraft R7 vertical next to the Pacific Ocean on 15m. The
pileups were fun! Using N1MM + the Mortty-V4 CW keyer (designed by K8UT+N8AR) made the contest a
blast operate in. QSL via K8LJG or Lotw.

It's always something to experience while participating, but in countries other than the US mainland

WHAT AN ADVENTURE

K1DW
So this was really our first serious effort with remote contesting. We had done a bit of it during
CQWW but this time we had remote ops really being a large part of the effort. Only 3 of us were
here at the shack and all the others ops were remote. Also for the first time in recent memory we
were not on the air as N1MM as Tom was using his call from home. So we used K1DW and Dallas was one
of the remote Ops. Lots of changes this time.

W1TJL consists of 2 stations, an FT-5000 on station 1 which was entirely used as local radio. On
station 2 is a new Flex 6400 which has a very good receiver but all three of us local Ops kept
reaching for the VFO knob! :-) It seriously is a big adjustment.

The antennas consist of a 3 element 40M KLM beam, two 4 element SteppIRs, a full size 80 meter
vertical with raised radials and a nearly full size 160 folder radiator vertical with raised
radials. Both of the beverages were out of play due to tree damage from the winds and storms.

Speaking of wind and storms the wind up here was AWFUL! Huge gusts and all amid really intense snow
squalls. Temps were at 8 degrees last night which reminded me of my years in the arctic. Watching
the elements on the 40 was scary at best.

Conditions were not terrible, but I seldom get too upset with conditions as no one has yet figured
out a way to not deal with them. They affect everyone. I’ve heard a few bemoaning the conditions
as being poor but I didn’t find it too bad. The numbers weren’t great but it was open and even
10 meters gave us contacts and mults.

We learned a lot about remote operating and have some fixes to do before ARRL DX SSB in 2 weeks.

Things that went well:

    • The first time we tried remote we used an audio software package touted to have very low
latency called Mumble (the server) and Murmur (the client). It worked OK but is a real PIA to set
up and God help you if something goes wrong! This time we used a different (easy to set up and use)
package written by DF3CB called RemAud (Remote Audio). It does some other things too but it was a
breeze to set up and was amazingly fast transfer of sound. Not exactly like being there but not far
off.

    • The FLEX only had a few issues which always were solvable by powering it down and back up.
Not sure what was going on - maybe RF (but wouldn’t you think that an electronic device meant to
be used in a high RF environment would be tolerant??) but it would occasionally just not want to
communicate. It is a computer after all. But other than that was quite good in the heat of battle.
The receiver is excellent – not only I thought that but the other ops too.

    • The Yaesu FT-5000 was as always, ROCK solid. Best transceiver I have ever used (so far).

    • All the other hardware in the shack was working great, the antennas performed well (and
stayed up in the strong winds!) but sometimes the tower would not turn easily due to wind pressure.

Things to improve:

    • We had some inter-station interference. Previously that had not been much of a problem but
this time we could occasionally hear the other station and sometimes it de-sensed the receiver. Just
this year I replaced all the inside the shack cabling with double shielded RG-400. Both radios have
an DuneStar 6 band band-pass filter. Grounding is very thorough. So another thing to figure out…
 And why only occasionally??

    • We need better in-shack use of the remote station. The Flex 6400 doesn’t really have good
ergonomics (does it have any??) So when not being used remotely the control is with a keyboard and
mouse. We will either have to get used to it OR figure out a way to hot swap the 2nd FT-5000 into
place when the station is being used locally.

    • We need better weather! I am tired of the cold!

I want to thank all the ops (K1DW, K1EBY, N1EN, NO5W, W1UJ) for participating, Dallas K1DW for his
call and Susan who as always helps with food, hospitality and putting up with this bunch of crazies
4 times a year!

On to ARRL DX SSB...

K2AX
Some things we noticed: IK8SCR worked us 3 times in 41 minutes.
Each time he sent a different number. We suspect he was sending
serial numbers. We kept the numbers he sent. KL7E called on 80m
at 0704z on 2-19. I suspect he is a pirate. His signal is way too
loud for 80m. He also sent "AK" initially but I asked him for
"Power" and he replied "1500". If this call is removed we ask
that it we not be penalized as we worked it in good faith and
logged it in accordance with the rules. This same call sign was
on for the CQ 160m contest doing the same thing a couple weeks
earlier and I "worked" him on 160m in that contest. Also way too
loud in that contest. Both LW9EKA and ON9EEE were sending "QRP"
for their exchange. We had no way of knowing if they were 5w or
3w or even less so we left their exchange as "QRP" as they sent
it. We believe HG7J was sending "NR5" which we logged as 5 but
it is possible he was trying to use serial numbers.

K2EKM
5w to a 53foot EF sloper. Conditions seemed better than last year.

K2JF
in all my years never had so many contacts! My radio was delivered on time for the one contest I was
most looking forward to.

K2SE
Rig : IC-7610; ALS-1300

Antennas : All wires: 3 element Collinear 20M (also double Zepp length on 80M); Tri-band half square
20-15-10M & 2 half squares on 40M.

Soapbox : Wasn't able to make a complete effort timewise and couldn't install the 15 meter collinear
I had made for this event. I was able to work everything I heard on the tri-bander but that antenna
is a little weak to run. It was great to hear 10 meters popping on Sunday - a hint of things to
come?. Had a mini thrill when after seeing them spotted all weekend I was able to work OX7AM & D44AO
in the last 20 minutes of the contest! God willing and the creek don't rise I'll be back next year!

K3AJ
K3AJ operated from the shack. ND3D, K3WA and WT3K operated remotely.

K3CCR
K3CCR is the club station at the Collington continuing-care
retirement community at FM 18OW in MD, just east of DC. As the
only available CW op, I (N3UM) did SOHP U in the 2022 ARRL CW DX
test. My goal was to ~match the 1224 Qs I got doing SOHP in the
2016 ARRL CW. Nope; in 2022, I got 0.88X the Qs in 0.9X the hrs;
BIC is key. I did beat the ~650-920 Qs I got doing M-2 with W3GB
2017-2021. At start, 40 M was OK; I ran for 122 Qs and 29 mults
00-02Z and clicked spots 0210-0348Z for 101 more 40-M Qs & 30
mults. From 0358-0517Z on 80 M I got 87 Qs & 45 mults, then 25
Qs & 19 mults on 160M. At 0552Z QRT, 335 Qs and 123 mults. On 20
M 1613-1753Z I ran for 131 of 142 Qs at 92/hr + 42 mults, then
quit to eat. Sat. PM 1829-2139Z was steady but slow; I got 78 Qs
on 20 M and 58 on 20 M + 54 mults. Same after supper 0024-0255Z;
57 Qs on 40, 35 on 80, & 6 on 160 M. Then 0303 to 0312Z QRT, 6
Qs and 5 mults on 20 M; OA, ZP, LU, XE, & ZL. Fast rates 1254-
1536Z; I got 201 Qs on 20 M, 122 in a run at 83/hr, mostly EUs.
Then 1545-1622Z 44 Qs on 15 M, also EUs, 29 in a run at 94/hr.
After lunch 1914-2117Z, I got 53 Qs on 20 M + AK, JA, & VK, and
17 Qs on 15 M + AK, VK, & KH7. I got a last 51 Qs in 55 min.
2121-2216Z, fast-clicking EU spots on 40 M. Q totals show that
Kp of 3 & 5 in dark hours was bad for 80 and 160 M but not 40 M.

With impending move to new QTH, I started out just wanting to
make an appearance. I wound up operating 827 minutes. All
Beverages and the 80/40 m. inverted V for NW/SW direction were
down, so no JA on the low bands. On 10 m. at the start, I was
able to work one JA. 160 m. was so good to Europe the second
night, even without the Beverages and with plenty of line noise,
I was able to work several. 10 m. Sunday morning, I worked some
western Europe. Most frustrating aspect was the several stations
who seldom identified themselves - I do not use spotting
assistance.

Was just going to be a part time effort, but conditions were
so good that I couldn't stop!

GREAT FUN ON 10 METERS ...

K6NR
Fun contest with the best conditions I've seen in a long while.
Started out good on Friday evening with 10 meters open to South
America AND Asia. I was able to run some JA stations on 10 then,
as wellas during the last hour on Sunday afternoon. Also ran JA
on 15 and 20, but was too lazy to get up early and work more on 40
meters in the mornings. A total of 62, 185 and 79 JA on 10, 15
and 20 respectively. I managed to run some EU on 20, 15 and even
40 as well. Great to hear Eu on 15, looking forward to hearing them
on 10 meters in the near future.

If I was able to sit in the chair longer, I don't think there would have
been a quiet time in the contest the whole weekend. Bands were good.

Thanks to my friends in Japan, and everywhere else, for all the QSOs.

Dana

Station: K4/KPA1500, running about 1000 watts most of the time.

Easy to pickup 50+ QSOs on Sunday morning 20M and 15M. Took a

Grand total 701Q 157 Cty.

Used 80 meter 4 square only. Had COVID the week before and I was too tired to work on antennas.
Could have used RX antennas because band was noisy and lots of 100w stations from Europe called in.
I even worked some 5 W European QRP guys! During CQWWCW the band was very quiet and it did not seem
like RX antennas were needed, plus a lot of USA stations were strong. Rig Flex 6600 + Maestro + PGXL
+ TGXL. Took a lot of rests, even during the night. The first night seemed quiet with a few
western Europeans, F & G and only 4 JAs in the morning. The second night seemed much better. I did
not work any rare or far away DX all weekend.

2/26/2022 Looking at log to see what multipliers I missed. Forgot to delete the XU7AGA contact 2-19
0759Z He was too strong and coming in from the NE. Pirate. QRZ indicates he is inactive. So need to
subtract one country from the total.

I had a blast! I ran 5 Watts into an indoor magnetic loop, and made
six memorable contacts. I worked Maderia Island off the coast of
Africa, the first time I worked that continent.

Excellent conditions, imho. Did entirely S&Pa and noticed that more than a few stations, if not
calling CQ, went for long periods of time and contacts without IDing. Spent more than enough time
waiting to see if needed only to find out that I had already worked them. Upside, a lot of new band
mode this time around

KL2R
Decided on a single-band 20m effort due to other obligations this weekend. I was not disappointed,
as conditions from KL were super much of the time. Rates were respectable. The best 10 minute rate
was 3.2/min. A steady, sustained 150/hour was very satisfying. I worked all states. No VY0/1 heard,
and I couldn’t snag VE9. I met my goal of 500 QSOs. I was happy to hand out KL to a lot of folks.

KM1R
Used my DX-100B and my 51S1. (SOSB 160) It was not easy, but it was fun, like 50
 years ago !

KP2M
During precontest testing, the Sixpack two radio antenna switch failed
so we reverted to a single radio antenna switch. First hour: 262.
There only two second radio QSOS. Both were mults worked LP after that radios’s amp failed.
The second radio monitored Spots and also the bands if we manually plugged in the correct antenna.
Operating MS was FB: Less stress, Less BIC
(sustained hours in the chair), more social, more fun.

This was the first contest test of the recently installed 80 meter Turnstile Antenna. Seemed to
work fine. Missed VO1 who all seemed to be doing single op single band efforts on other bands. :(
The score Fell slightly short of the KP4 record for 80M. Happens when the other bands are on fire!
K3S, KPA1500 at a KW.

KQ2M
Unusual cndx and lots of fun as always.
Tnx for the qsos and the mults! 73 Bob, KQ2M

KR2Q
Yes, LOTS of Qs for me, but very few mults; it is not a mistake. My goal was to work as many other
members of CWops as possible and that is what I focused on and why I went UNlimited category for the
first time ever. Only 20 hours because my older daughter drove up from Phila, PA and visited with
us for the weekend. So I had to cut short some of the best times. But it was worth it. Besides, I
had a LOT OF FUN during the ARRL contest working other CWops members.....plus many others.

KS7T
Murphy haunts me I think. Amp tuning capacitor decided to wear out
and not turn to peak finals right on the contest weekend. Rotated
load capacitor to 2 O'clock and it worked on 20 and 40 to 450w.
decided not gud fer tubes so used spare amp with an al811h with 3
instead of 4 cuz one tube bad, it still got 550 w!

I had more Q's the first day than the entire contest last year.
Then the noise came up the second day with the A-index going up
into the teens and the sunspots going down. But, I had a ton of
fun. It's amazing that folks half way around the world can
actually hear me with this setup. Can't wait to do it again.
Thanks - 73 tom Rig = TenTec Eagle @ 100 Watts. Antenna =

NIce to see the higher bands in such good shape. I did better on
10m than 40m for the first contest in a long time. 20m was wall
to wall EU on Sunday morning! Thanks for all the QSO's!

KY4GS
My 1st DX contest went well. It was different than the smaller domestic contests. There were many
operators happy for me to respond, despite my slow speed on the straight key (especially when they
didn't have a pileup). I did sometimes get responses the 1st time I answered, even when there were
others. From SC, I got multiple Hawaii and Alaska stations, back to back. It became hard to find new
stations near the end to avoid dupes (and I did end up with one unintended dupe). I got a couple
stations on 4 bands. I can't wait to go through the list and find out how many different countries I
contacted (and see how many confirm either on LOTW or direct). It was definitely a fun weekend. Hope
to hear everyone next year!

With a K index of 5, this didn't look encouraging. I'd also lost my doublet and inv-l in the storms,
but was able to use the 18M pole for a vertical for 80.

As expected, conditions were patchy with some interesting openings to the west on 15 and 20, sadly,
I heard nothing on 10!

Another great event, let's hope I have all my antennas in order and conditions are better next

Enjoyed the contest. Unfortunately poor GM weather meant that the only antenna I had in the air was
a vertical for 40m so only worked 40m and 15m. Hoping to have a more serious entry next year!
Thanks to all for the Qs.

Saturday operated from home single band on 10 Meters using the old Radio Shack CB whip on our Weber
BBQ grill on the patio. Two Qs - XE2IF and ZF5T. Thanks. Sunday morning, I didn't hear much on the
CB whip. Went out fixed mobile on a hilltop with a full size 1/4 wave whip on the SUV. Heard a
bunch of stuff. Best DX worked was D4L and CR3DX. Was hoping for Europe, but nil. Active geomagnetic
conditions earlier (K index went to 5) depressed northern paths. Sunday afternoon was warm here in
Lawrence, KS. 60 degrees F and sunny. So out portable again. Logged 4 Hawaii stations -- KH6LC was
very loud. Worked ZM2B, ZL3X, & ZL4TT. They were not strong, but all hear very well. ZP6/N3BNA was
a surprise! With Solar Cycle 25 now picking up, considering plans next year to set up a portable
Yagi on 10 Meters for the contest.

Great time! A little rusty. Need more contesting!

I forgot when we invited friends to stay with us for the weekend that it was the ARRL DX CW weekend!
Still, I managed to squeeze enough time between daytime and evening outings to produce a score.

This was the first year that I ran assisted and it really helped out with running low power on a
band that was not wide open over the entire contest. It made it fun and kept me busy during
operations.

Improved band conditions certainly made for more fun; I'll bet
there will be more DXpeditions in the near future...
This
contest was a "fun experience" with Jim, W4TMO, operating
remotely from his home. I don't have the stamina required to be
effectively competitive by myself and Jim was my complement! We
alternated operating times and communicated by telephone and
texting! No major problems developed.
Many thanks to the
well-mannered stations we worked...it made for a very enjoyable
experience. I was a bit disappointed in pileup behavior towards
the end of the contest...I walked away from several pileups
because of that. Life's too short...
Thanks for the Q's de N4CW and W4TMO

N4UM
I OPERATED FOR ABOUT 5 HOURS ON 15M. I SPENT SOME TIME ON 10M AFTER FINISHING ON 15 AND INTENDED
THAT MY 10M CONTACTS BE INCLUIDED IN A CHECK LOG. COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO THAT SO DECIDED TO
MAKE IT AN ALL BAND ENTRY. NO BIG DEAL.

I NOTED MANY INSTANCES (A COUPLE DOZEN) WHERE MY CALL WAS REPORTED ON THE RBN AS BEING ON BANDS THAT
I NEVER OPERATED UPON. MY REPORTED CW SPEED IN THESE INSTANCES WAS USUALLY ABOVE 30 WPM. I NEVER
SEND THAT FAST. I OPERATE "SEARCH AND POUNCE" FOR 99 PERCENT OF THE TIME AND SO WOULD GENERATE VERY
FEW RBN HITS AT DIFFERENT TIMES. OBVIOUSLY, SOMEONE WAS PLAYING GAMES AND BOOTLEGGING MY CALL.

QRP, NON-Assisted, "full 5 Watts" to a 20 Foot end-fed wire,
thrown into a tree out my window - my only station antenna.
No internet or other assistance used, just S&P "tune and find".
Band conditions surprisingly good considering the few sunspots.
My goal was to better my last years results ... I did, and I
even set a new "personal best" record with this years score.
I awakened on Sunday with all continents in my log EXCEPT for
Europe. Sunday morning provided the EU opening I hoped for,
so I easily made W.A.C. in this years contest running QRP.
My hearty congratulations and THANKS to all for your patience.
Most copied the exchange perfectly, with only occasional
repeats required, a testament to your stations and your skills!

First time to use the vanity callsign for the UCSB club. N6RA was a long-term friend and member of
the club. Tom passed away last year and the club (W6RFU) acquired his callsign as a secondary call.

Put up another beam for 10 meters hoping it would open. It was
at the start but after a while something seemed wierd. After
some investiogation I discovered confusion over the coax resulted
in transmitting to the east when I thought it was to the west and
visa versa! 6 bands from KH6LC, JA3YBK, PJ2T and ZF1A! Best
score ever in ARRL DX!

I missed the big opening Sunday evening! (You shoulda been here yesterday). I've
read many comments and scores. I wish everyone would include their operating
time to compare my score with.

I've named my operating style in the this contest: "Nonchalant". I'm
not good enough at CW to be really effective in a big-time contest like this. So
I just clicked on the red spots and tried to work as many countries as possible.
I did break a few pile-ups which boosted my ego a bit. (Giving myself two
thumbs-up).

Looking forward to the DX SSB!!!

Thanks for QSOs.

Good propagation, 20m open very late (closed stn 22:UTC).

OH3KAV
Thanks again for a nice ARRL DX Contest. Lots of good operators with big ears!
The propagation did not produce many QSOs beyond the big contest stations of East Coast,
but nice that the 21 MHz was also open on Sunday.

X-ray flux very low and spells below B2 with one flare up to C5.
Geomag jumpy with one K = 5 period, but not according to
forecast. Activation of various calls during the weekend...

OH6QU
Thanks to increased number of sunspots and higher solar flux the night time propagation from OH6
area to North America are back on 15 meters! I made more that 60 % of my contest QSOs during the
dark time of the day i.e. between 18 – 02 UTC (local sunrise/sunset at 06:00/15:30 UTC).

Day 1:

00 – 02 UTC the band was mainly open to W5, W6, W7 and VE7 area. Strong signals with not much
flutter on their signals. 36 Qs made.
12 – 18 UTC was nothing but struggle in bad auroral conditions. Mostly S&P. US signals were weak
and fluttery. Central and Southern EU QRP stations were beating me in pile-ups. Very frustrating
period. 153 Qs made.
19 – 24 UTC the band was slowly opening to North America. At the end W5 & W6 stations were loud as
locals. 236 Qs made.

Day 2:

12 – 18 UTC was better than day before but aurora was still making trouble. I was beaming all day
to South America to make QSOs to North America. Aurora oval was still blocking the direct route to
North America. Mostly RUN. Only Southern US signals were clean without flutter. 163 Qs made.
19 – 22 UTC the band opened earlier than day before. Surprisingly also East Coast was coming thru
eventhough it was mainly West Coast booming in. At 21 UTC yet another magnetic disturbance hit the
earth and the band died quite soon after that. 150 Qs made.

of the 40m beam.
There goes my plan to do a SOAB.
Did not sleep well as the wind gust reached over 80 mph.
Knowing that I had a busy weekend with other things planned otherthan contesting, last minute
decision taken was to go for SOSB 15m.
Had a great time with the limited hours spent in the shack.

My first ARRL DX Contest in quite a few years -- and my first CW contest from Greenland. Super fun
weekend, despite bad condx on the first night, the second one picked up nicely. Many hours of
moderate pileups. I did expect more but given the antennas were a hexbeam, a shortened dipole for
40, and a teo-band vertical for 80/160 -- I don't think I should complain. Thanks to everyone who
called -- see you all mext year! 73 de OX7AM

Using a low 45 feet end-fed wire and 100W on 40m monoband. On sunday I
had too much local noise. Even with a Noise Canceller and magnetic
loop for RX it was too much so stopped in the morning. But it was fun.
Lots of fine operators!

could only use my 80 m vertical loop. I thus decided to operate

Two winter storms Dudley and Eunice pounded across Europe on Thursday and Friday night and crippled
my hexbeam to barely unusable, so I had to bring it down. Made a couple of qso's on 15m with it at
Saturday at 1m above the ground! Sigs on my ZS6BKW were not too hard from US and Canada and I had
strong competition from other European stations with my 100W FT2000 and the antenna at 6m height.
Nevertheless enjoyed the contest and thank you for your patience.

3 Heavy storms in the ARRLDXCW weekend, Dudly Eunice and

We had several heavy storms in The Netherland during the weekend.
The first one destroyed the 7MHz rotary dipole, so I could not
operate 40m. Due to the seccond storm it was impossible to raise
the tower so had to work with low antenns but I did manage to
work al lot of dx and made many qso's. Had fun anyway.

Tnx for this big contest.
Due to the heavy storms in my area, i had to remove my ZS6BKW antenna on top of the apartment
building. Put a Hustler mobile antenna whip on the indoor balcony and was able to work on 3 bands,
40-20 and 15. During on time I only worked S&P because of the very high power stations in Europe.
Glad to meet some friends again. Enjoyed, su next time!, 73 Hans, PC4E (ex PJ4LS, PJ2LS, PA0JLS)

It was fun thanks to the good conditions and the very high standard of operating practice from the

This was my first "serious" ARRL International DX Contest; where,
instead of exchanging the odd few numbers, I decided to work as many
US & Canadian states/provinces and stations on 40m as possible - and
it was quite an enjoyable contest! My station consisted of a
TS-480HX operating at 100W output to a switched Y-doublet at 15m
height. Something I would ask NA operators to consider in future:
the Southern Hemisphere is in mid-summer right now, and the level of
electrical storm QRN on the lower bands is astronomical - so when
we're transmitting CQ calls at low speed that's our way of saying
"Please reply at a similar speed so we can copy you through the
static." Unfortunately I lost some QSOs because I couldn't copy the
callsign or exchange from weak stations buried under the QRN and
blasting away at umpteeen wpm. Anyway, thanks to everyone who
answered my calls, and to the ARRL for running the contest. 73, and
I hope to hear you all in the next contest!

fun. Thanks for your patience with the 100 watts and Invee.
See you next year.73

VK7GN
At least some propogation. 15 was good for a change.

VY2LI
Limited time available, so went with 15M single band. Wire Vee @ 25' running Yaesu FT-950 interfaced
to N1MM and Rigblaster Pro.

W0YJT
Good contest lots of fun

W0ZW
Wow. On Saturday afternoon 10 m was wall-to-wall signals. I haven't seen this level of activity on
the band in years. Very good participation on all bands, actually. Thank you Cycle 25!

Bands are hopping!

W1MVY
This was my first contest in over 20 years. It was great to hear all the activity from around the
globe!

W1NN
Remote from Japan. Only low dipoles for 40 and 80 available.

W1QK
Wow! Great band conditions this year with plenty of activity.
Thanks for the contacts and fun on the radio. Thanks to the ARRL
for sponsoring the contest. 73 - Dan, W1QK

W2AAB
Improved propagation led to a higher score than last year. 15 meters
came alive early, and 10 meters showed some decent openings as well.
Cycle 25 has begun, it seems. Go FRC!

W2HUV
Remotely operated the Gloucester County Amateur Radio Club
(GCARC) HF Station, W2MMD, with a temporary tower, tri-bander and
the 40m portion of a trap antenna installed following extensive
damage during an EF3 tornado spawned by the remnants of Hurricane
Ida on 09/01/2021. Operation was limited to 10, 15, 20 and 40
meters. The results definitly would have been better if 80m and
160m atennas were available.

W3RE
Fun contest. Lost time on trying to figure out N1MM
configuration back to CW from RTTY. Learning more about N1MM.
Spent time operating at NE3F statoin as well.

W3TB
W3TB, Franklin TN
40-10 meters, Inverted Vee for 80 meters.

W4HVH
Thanks!

W4IFI
My first time on this contest. Quite the humbling experience for a 15 wpm operator,,, took a few
minutes to make each contact, listening to the DX op for awhile to make sure I got their exchange
correct then I made my call. Great incentive for me to work on increasing my speed. I can do it!

W4PM
A fun 4 band event here - poor 160 antenna and conditions and 10 never really opened for me. 80 was
HOT the first night with lots of 100w stations calling me and 40 through 15 were very good the whole
weekend. My 500w and wire antennas did about as well as expected, certainly no competition for the
big boys, but fun never-the-less! My original goal was to make 1,000 contacts but once that was
realized why not try for 1,000,000 points. It would be tough with no big opening and just a few
multipliers on 10 meters! I therefore did a lot of cherry picking of multipliers on the other bands
and also managed enough contacts too squeak by! This was one of my better efforts in years in this
contest. Thanks for all the contacts!
73,
Puck W4PM

It would be very helpful to non-assisted search and pouncers - like me - to have runners be required
to give their calls every few Qs instead of having to wait for several minutes to see who you are to
make sure you are not a dupe . . . After all, without S&P folks calling you, you would not have
anyone with whom to have a Q, would you. It's not all about YOU, it is about everyone. We all try to
do the best we can, but runners without S&Pers are nothing.

W7IY
Portable operations while in a campground. Rig IC-7100 and
hamstick. Tough going and thanks to all the stations who pullled
my signal out of the noise.

W7XZ
Nice to have sunspots again. Best ever claimed score in this contest as
SOAB. Inverted-L with MFJ-998RT worked well, 160-10M. Two Flags on remote
antenna switch worked well for RX vs. local noise on 160-40M. First time
in this contest was in 1956 as K6ILB, age 14, with score of 75 (5 Qs x 5).

W8GJK
It started as a very casual effort, but I got hooked and worked fairly hard all day Sunday. I'm not
good enough at CW to run in a contest, but can copy enough by ear to S&P with CWSkimmer and a keyer
to assist. All Q's were S&P only. Good Fun, 73!

W8KNO
All Search and Pounce.

W8LVN
Operated about 30 hours. Was a challenge to keep focus in a DX contest with compromise antennas on
the high bands. Ended up with sleep during morning of second day. For 10, I used the 80 meter
dipole. For 15, the 40 meter dipole. Ususally I get a few Carribean stations on 160, but this time
only one. It is fun working JA, VK, ZL on low bands--this time on 40. And it is nice to see the WRTC
promoted with II8 and II4.

W8RU
Thanks for the QSOs and 73! -Ron (W8RU).

W8WA
Great 15m condx.

W8WTS
I had too many family and other obligations to operate in this contest. I missed operating from my
favorite M/M superstation, K8AZ, due to schedule issues. I turned on the radios and make a few QSOs
here and there during small time gaps.

Conditions sounded mostly good. DX was particularly workable on 40 m in the last hours of the
contest.

73,

Jim, W8WTS

W9RE
Thanks to all the good ops worldwide.

WA0KNP
Band conditions were great! It had been a long time since I worked
Australia from Western MN on 10 meters.

WA0USA
My first contest /QRP Thanks to all that worked my 5w and wire GP

WA1FCN
After many years contesting as mostly SB 40, I decided to
operate SB 15. Age (birthday Sunday now 74 )
is certainly showing on me. Sunday morning I felt like
I was rare DX. I never had such a huge long pileup
of EU stations. Also in SP mode I had to call many
stations Many times, where as on 40 with my 2 element
at 70 ft one or two calls is all it took.

WA6KHK
Second MFJ keyer to go out on me. Kudos to 3G3R for running 5 watts!

WA6URY
Operated remote from Tokyo, Japan

WA8Y   [photo/doc]
First my radio was suddenly not working 5 minutes before the start. It was 03:03 3 when I made my
first Q. My Remote connection kept failing every 30 minutes or so. Seemed there was a shortage of
bandwidth between South Florida and Central Michigan. Every time I got a Run going my connection
failed.

WB0POH
In 2020, I had to miss the contest due to actually being in Germany and Austria (for the first
time!!) on a business trip. For me 2021 was horrible - only 30 QSOs and didn't even send a log.
This year was MUCH better. My only regret was that I lost my 10m whips as 15m was wide open, and so
(I suspect) was 10m. Ironically - I worked stations that were less than 10km from places I visited
in Munich and Salzburg.

WB2AMU
Decent conditions for operating Ten Meters as single band effort.
Somewhat noisy conditions in the afternoon. I was able to work four
stations in Europe during this contest. I actually worked one station
from Brazil above the FT8 frequency of 28.074!

WB6AAJ
Propagation was very good. Most of the DX contacts were on 40 meters.

Running sharp v wire on low bands...

WQ6X
This was another WQ6X portable operation from W7AYT's QTH in Concord.
This was the 1st ARRL DX contest run with the newly acquired Yaesu FT-2000
transceiver feeding the Stereo-Cw setup I have written so much about in the
WQ6X Contest Blog.
I also ran remote operating shifts (mostly after midnight) for the NX6T Multi-
Single operation. The antennas at W7AYT are nothing compared to the Anza QTH.
While the SFI was largely in the low 90's, the upside was no Space-WX storms
until AFTER the contest event - Whew! 15 & 10 meters had some incredible
openings (compared to previous low-SFI years). This year, 20-meters was
quite a disappointment at the Concord location.
Overall, I had a lot of FUN this weekend.
LooK for a write-up on this GiG at: http://WQ6X.Blogspot.com.

XE2B   [photo/doc]
The SFI helped a lot on the upper bands and managed to the best score since 2003 on LP.
The leg of my 40/160 Slopper developed a short. So, nothing worked on these bands the second night.
