Murphy had the first laugh. We expected Saturday's S7 powerline noise on 40 & 80 to quiet when the
rain began late that evening. Instead, we got S9 arcing on ALL bands for the remainder of the
contest. Murphy also had the last laugh.

AB1JV
Tried to "run", but with a cast on my arm from elbow to fingers, conditions were less than optimal
for fast, pile-up logging, hihi. Ended up in search-and-pounce mode until my arm hurt too much for
even that much typing. Still managed a clean sweep with only a quarter of my normal qso count, so
that was fun. Next year hopefully 10 fingers and higher scores!

AB5GG
Condx were good all around this year. Hexbeam that was repaired from spring ice storm worked FB.
This year we had good success on 15M and 20M. Tnx for all the Q's. 73 - AG5GG (+WF5X)

AG7AE
Licensed in 2016 - first contest ever. Never had an HF setup at the QTH until this year when I
started working with Scouts for radio and STEM training, so my only HF contacts were during FD and
under a club call. First HF contact under my call in June, now Sweepstakes! Had a lot of fun!

AI4WU
Tried valiently to achieve a clean sweep with only 85 QSOs.
Unfortunately never heard DE or saw a spot for DE. Maybe they
skipped over VA since we're so close. Saw SDG spotted, but never
managed to hear them either. Timing is everything and apparently
mine sucks. Had fun nevertheless. N1MM only shows 4.5 hours
operating, but I spent closer to 8 hours battling pile ups and
waiting for DE and SDG to appear.

I'm still amazed at the high QSO count stations being able to have the
patience to carefully walk operators unfamiliar with the Sweepstakes
through the contest exchange on Sunday afternoon. It's a show of good
sportsmanship to be able to do this in the heat of a very competitive
contest.

K2MN
Used two indoor fan dipoles and 80 Watts.

K2PI
I'm a relative newcomer to Sweepstakes; initially intimidated by the exchange, now I love it. I
entered as QRP, and it was difficult, exhilarating, and heartening. Difficult because SSB on such a
crowded band using only my (high) wires was tough. Exhilarating because I managed to make many QSOs
I didn't expect to, including AK and HI. Heartening, because my power made the exchange tough to
hear and I was treated with extreme patience and grace by many fellow Hams, including WA6KHK and
WH7Z, to name just a couple.

I also heard many Hams teaching newcomers about SS by helping them with the exchange in the truest
Ham spirit. My kudos especially to WZ8T and W0PSY, who are natural teachers and I'm sure made a few
SS converts through their gentle coaching. Till next year, 73!

K3CCR
K3CCR is the club station at the Collington continuing-care
retirement community at FM 18OW in MD, just east of DC. N3UM and
W5MPB did Multi-1 HP in the 2023 SSB sweeps, as we did in 2022.
N3UM mostly ran. W5MPB clicked spots for mults and always-CQing
ops. We hoped to get a better score then our 2022 claim. With
0.98 X the Qs and 1.02 X the mults, we were within 0.1%, -48 out
of 110,840. One more Q and it would have been +122! At start on
20 M 2100-2330Z N3UM got 72 of 101 Qs in 2 runs at 47 & 55/hr.
Then on 40 M he ran at 53/hr for 47 of 80 Qs 2335-0127Z. W5MPB
at 0138Z got 3 20-M Qs, then 55 80-M Qs and 29 40-M Qs hopping
between 40 and 80. He worked all spots on one band while spots
built back on the other; 1-3 Qs on some hops, 18-19 on others.
He got PAC @ 0332Z & AK @ 0402Z on 40 M! At 0618Z QRT we had 284
total Qs and 78 sects. Back 1223-1324Z, N3UM ran for 67 40-M Qs
at 66/hr. On 20 M 1338-1528Z he got 61 of 72 Qs in 5 short runs,
then 13 15-M Qs by 1626Z and broke to eat. W5MPB got 14 15-M Qs
1656-1751Z. Then 1758-1917Z he hopped for 27 more; 6 on 10M, 9
on 15 M, and 12 on 20M. N3UM 1932-2124Z got 8 20-M Qs, 7 15-M Qs
(85th sect SB at 1959Z), then ran for 15 of 24 40-M Qs. W5MPB
2132-0123Z hopped bands for 31 40-M Qs plus 31 more on 80, 20, &
15 M. N3UM 0133-0259Z ran at 46.5/hr for 65 last Qs on 80 M.

What a rush! Wish I could have worked the entire 24 hours allowed, but could not make that happen.
The bands were decent on Saturday, but Sunday afternoon was pretty bad. Then things improved late
Sunday. Anyway, had a ton of fun and gave the rig a workout. This was one of my better ss scores.
Hope I'm up to it again next year.

K5XU
Great fun!

K5YAC   [photo/doc]
Started out as class B (single op, high power, unassisted) but was playing with the Telnet links
late in the game and did use that to work a few. So I'm guessing that my official class is U
(single op, high power, assisted), which is what I've submitted. Hope this doesn't goof up any
contact confirmation with others, but I felt it was the correct thing to do as far as my entry
class.

Never have used spotting before. Talk about fish in a barrel!

Had a great time! My first clean sweep!

73,

Rig used was the Yaesu FT2000 won at the ARRL auction this year. Performed very well. Single
antenna was MFJ 2010 Windom strung along house eaves. Worked 15m and 40m.

Thanks again to Frank Donovan, W3LPL, for letting Bob Teitel (W3IDT)
invade his basement. We split his station and do two Sweepstakes

Fun contest! I had a lot of social commitments this weekend so I
did not operate that much, but I did thoroughly enjoy the
contest, getting those hard to reach Qs, and really diving into
my radio's capabilites more. Being that this was my first SSB
phone contest I was very happy with my score. Didn't get any
160m contacts, by the time I got to the radio in the evening (10p
local, and 4a) the band was empty save for a couple ragchews.

Usually have to hunt for ND, SD, VE4,5,& 6 near the end of the contest but
several of each called me and still no clean sweep. There was a /VY1 I
heard calling stns but never hrd him CQ. Then there were a few guys with old
W calls who had no clue about ss , still, happens every year- What's most
interesting about SS is the checks and the big sigs from QRP stns.

Nice to see many using QRP and doing quite well.

N0KIS
I used an Icom IC-703+ radio with the Heil Pro Set/HC-5 element. I operated in the late afternoon
and early evening on both days of the contest. The antenna on Saturday was a Doublet, configured as
an Inverted-Vee. The top height of the antenna was about 25 feet agl. The element length was 34
feet with a 23 foot long parallel transmission line and Icom AH-4 ATU. This antenna worked well on
20m, 15m, & 10m. It did not work very well on 40m and 80m. I could hear quite well on the low
bands, but no one seemed to hear me. On Sunday I changed the antenna to a 105 foot long Inverted-U.
An Inverted-U is an Inverted-L, but the yard space isn't long enough to install the antenna in an
Inverted-L configuration, so the end of the wire routes back down toward the ground, vertically, at
the end support mast. About 20 feet of the wire was routed down the end support mast. The top
height of the Inverted-U was about 30 feet agl. The Icom AH-4 ATU could match this antenna on all
bands from 160m thru 6m. This antenna netted me some 80m and 40m contacts on Sunday, which was
great. It really turned out to be a nice simple all HF band solution. There were 21 radials at the
feedpoint ranging from 15 to 30 feet long. Good luck to all you QRP enthusiasts. 72

2023 ARRL November Sweepstakes This was my first ever ARRL
November Sweepstakes. The required exchange was a little
daunting at first but once I got the hang of it, it was
fine. All of my operations were search and pounce. When I first
started, I had no idea of trying for a clean sweep, but early on
I worked a few stations that I had considered would be hard to
get. (HI, AK and the western Canadian sections.Once I realized
I had a shot at it, I concentrated on new sections at the expense
of getting many contacts. I spent many, many hours trying to
reach Northern New York, Delaware, and Newfoundland. I only heard
two Northern New York stations, but they never heard me due to my
low power and puny wire antennas. Locally, I heard NN4RB several times,
W4WWQ and actually got to work W1IE as he was running. It was a
lot of fun, and I learned a whole lot about the N1MM software.I
had spent a lot of time early in the week setting things up to
run all the WAV automation, but found it to be stilted and a
little slow. Now while it is fresh on my mind, Ill tweak all
that and be ready for next year.

N5EIF
First time doing the SSB Sweepstakes. I only had a QRP rig
with me, but thought I'd try it anyway. I was surprised that
QRP does indeed work on sideband too. It was a lot of fun!

Rig was an IC-705 at 5 watts, antenna was a 100 foot doublet
up about 25 feet.

N5LFE
I had fun and my best SS results so far. Finished installation of a new (and my first) tower with
untested antennas the morning of the contest, hoping everything worked, and hoping the predicted
thunderstorms would hold off. We had only some needed rain. I got off to a slow start as I could not
find a run frequency in the crowded 20m/40m bands, but that changed Sunday morning and made a big
difference. I had about given up on a clean sweep when VY0ERC in TER section called me during a
small run in the last half-hour of the contest, so I am grateful to him for that. A great learning
experience since moving to a new area last year, in a different time zone, with different
propagation. My advice is to be careful using auto-fill. Even though I operated SS from the new
section last year, many stations had my old section popping up, so the data wasn't current. I hope
everyone had fun and I look forward to next year.

N5XJ
First time in many years to operate enough to get the sweep! My last
two sections worked were NNy and last was MS for the sweep, and was
fun when they went into the log having answered my CQ!...73 , Mike

The most fun I've had in a phone contest in many years! Found good run freq's
easily, broke mult pile-ups reasonably quickly, only a little DQRM. Lots of weak
callers but pulled most of them out.

Limited time to operate, but still got on. Never did hear my

height antenna, and 100 watts. Hoping that I just earned my 11th,
Rocky Mountain Division plaque. 73, de N7MZW.

PRIMARILY A TRAINING EXERCISE FOR TWO NEW CONTESTERS LICENESED ONLY 6 MONTHS, DAVE KE8YJX
AND HIS XYL DANIELLE KE8YMU. AS WELL AS AN OPERTUNITY TO SEE AN OLD FRIEND ERIC NO3M,
WHICH I HAD NOT SEEN IN A LONG TIME. THIS WAS ONLY THE THIRD CONTEST FOR DAVE AND
DANIELLE, AND WITH THE LONG EXCHANGE A TRUE BAPTISM BY FIRE. I THINK THEY DID PRETTY
GOOD AND AM LOOK FORWARD TO WATCHING THEM IMPROVE WITH EACH MULTI OP EFFORT WE DO
TOGETHER. I WILL SAY, I HOPED AND PRAYED ONE OF THE "KIDS" WOULD BE THE ONE TO GET
THE SWEEP AND MY PRAYERS WERE ANSWERED! DAVE GOT THE SWEEP SUNDAY MORNING, AND TO ME,
THAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE CONTEST AND LIKELY SOMETHING HE WILL NEVER FORGET.
NOTHING LIKE WATCHING SOMEONE GET THEIR FIRST CLEAN SWEEP AND NEEDLESS TO SAY
THE YAHOOS AND HIGH FIVES WERE NUMEROUS FOLLOWED BY ME HAVING TO TURN DRILL

Operating an event like this is always fun and it tells you not only about propagation but where
your station set up needs additional improvement. Fun stuff!.

NI0K
Boys and Girls the planets aligned for this one! A clean sweep!!!
ONN, SDG and PR were the last sections to go into the log. I
never saw myself spotted and forgot self-spotting was OK. Doh.
Propagation seemed really good and there were plenty of stations
on except Sunday N1MM kept showing DUPE for calls I entered. My
station automation worked well for antenna selection, rig control
and rotor aiming. My best run was Saturday evening on 40: 78 Q's.
My max rates of 86/hr for an entire hour and up to132/hr for 10
minutes and 180/hr for 1 minute(!). Of course the 'real'
contesters south of me had more Q's and a better overall rate. My
energy and stamina was really good so I guess the triple bypass
worked! I was building a last minute high 80M inverted vee but
didn't finish before the contest. Good to hear the MWA'ers!

This is always a fun but challenging contest. It was wonderful hearing so many newer stations on

I was non-assisted and used S&P scrolling up and down the bands
to work stations. Rig was Icom IC-7300 at 100 watts. Logging was via
N3FJP contest logger.
Glad to see that there was a Limited Antennas
overlay since that is how I operate all the time anyway. My
wire antenna was and old-style Windom antenna cut for 40 meters with
a single wire feeder/down-lead fed by a Chameleon Emcomm III base 9:1
unun. Top wire is up 25 feet AGL supported by a tree and is 66 feet
horizontal fed 45 feet from one end. Down-lead is 23 feet long.
Antenna ends are supported by house chimney at 27 feet AGL and the
other end slopes down to a fence on a hill at about 15 feet AGL.
I have 10 radials 13-39 ft long and lying on the ground. The 9:1
unun is fed by about 46 feet of RG-8X and choked off just before
entering the house wall. Coax braid also acts as a 4th radial.
I use a Palstar AT2K manual T-tuner to tune up on 160 & 80 meters thru
the 9:1 unun. On 40, 20, 15 & 10 meters I can bypass the AT2K and use
my IC-7300 internal 3:1 tuner to tune around the bands. 73 de VA3RSA.

A fun, friendly, and relaxing contest.

W0EEE
It took some work, but we were able to get 4 stations running
at the same time, all with amplifiers that did not explode
this time! Our four radios were a TS-990, TS-940, FTDX10, and
FT-847. Our four amplifiers were a TENTEC Centurion,
2x Ameritron AL-811Hs, and a Heathkit SB-230. We ran an 80m
wire and 10-20m vertical onto a temporary mast in the yard,
and wired it all back into our shack through the hallway doors.
The bands seemed to be acting weird this sweeps, which we think
is due to a coronal mass ejection that happened right before
the contest started. We had a blast, and hope to be back on the
year again next year! 73s from Morgan, Eric, Josh, Thomas, Adam,
Peyton, Connor, Jayden, Ron, Katherine, and Max!

The W0SD station is BACK!
Great contest and lots of fun! Had a antenna tuner fail during my 1st QSO, so took the first half
hour off.
Didn't hit 10m too much. Tried to call CQ but didnt get a run going. Sweep was not easy this year,
but was thankful to be able to find TER and ONN.
Learned a lot of valuable lessons for my first SS that will help next year!

My pirmary mode is CW followed by digital with almost no SSB.
Having some time on my hands I thought I'd try the SS SSB.
Being in a temporary rental location I operated in a 'portable'
mode with a 25' 'umbrella topped' vertical and my SG-230
tuner. I had a BLAST!!!!! Took a while to catch on but as I
learned the flow it was almost as much fun as the CW SS HIHI.
THANKS for running this, and the CW SS.
I'll be back!

First time contesting--new experience. The Sweeps SSB Contest Exchange is WAY too long. Takes
forever to log correctly--eats into time that actually produces points. With QRN / QSB needed
several go-arounds for correct copy on both ends. Year I was first licensed? Who cares. 73 de W3GX

DIDN'T HAVE MUCH TIME TO DEVOTE TO THIS WEEKEND BUT WHAT I DID WAS FUN.
NO COMPUTERS HERE. JUST PEN AND PAPER. NEW ANTENNA TEST PART 2 (CW
WEEKEND WAS PART 1) AND IT PASSED AGAIN WITH FLYING COLORS, ALL ON 20
METERS. I'M A HUNT AND POUNCE CONTESTER SO I DO HAVE TO CONFESS THAT
I TENDED TO CALL ONLY REALLY STRONG SIGNALS. HIGH NOISE LEVEL MADE
IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO WORK WEAK ONES. THE PICTURES SHOW THE WHOLE
STATION, EXCEPT THE POWER SUPPLY.

W8EDU
Case Western Reserve University here--we heard a few other school clubs on and stopped to chat with
them for a moment.

The contest was fun, we involved about ten students and several alumni. Operators were quite
patient with newcomers. The results of the Frequency Measuring Test were posted with one hour to go
in Sweepstakes and that gave everyone a lift.

Thanks everyone for a good weekend! CU next year!

W9TCV
Didn't have much time to operate due to other activities over
the weekend, but I got on the air and made some contacts. Thanks
for the patience from other ops as I got familiar with the (very
long!) exchange and some deep QSB, along with tons of QRM. It
was a fun time and next year I want that pin...and maybe the
coffee mug too. 73, W9TCV

W9YZR
Loved the limited antenna overlay! Competing on an even level feels great!

WA2CNV
Had limited time but all bands wide open!

WA6KHK
Last section worked for the sweep was San Diego and that county is 30 miles from me! Go figure.

WA6URY
Operated remote from Tokyo, Japan

WA8Y
The contest was disappointing because; the propagation in Michigan was poor, unable to find too many
sections, lack to new stations to work, low BIC time. This resulted in my lowest score in years.
On the bright side, all my equipment worked without issue. Oh, except my antennas which needed new
tunes because of the wet ground.

WB2KHE
not as many QSOs as I'd like, but 48 more than last year's zero!

WD5CCA
Fun as always

WE9N
I only operated 1 hour due to other obligations but the 40 meter band at the tail end of the contest
was full of operators. I snagged 27 sections within that hour and had a blast. Hopefully life won't
get in the way next year!

WM2Y
only had less then an hour for this one.

WM7Z
Casual operation but did well anyway. Great fun!

WN3N
Great time again this year, nice time to be with family and friends

WO3X
I don't expect to get a "Clean Sweep" because I have some
scheduled interruptions.

Even thou helped some with a Clean Sweep with my QSO, my main goal was to gather points for the VOTA
event. :)

WQ6X
This is the 1st WQ6X SS contest running QRP
wOw! What a WILD November Sweepstakes GiG for 2023.
Along with putting in two multi-hour shifts at NX6T, I was able
to put WQ6X in the remote operator's chair from the Ramona QTH.
With the former Tower #2 from NX6T's old Fallbrook QTH now a
semi-permanent fixture at KN6NBT's Ramona location, running QRP
into a 55' high 3-EL Stepp-IR and 2-EL Shorty-40 (plus Inverted
Vee for 80) has become a no-brainer.
People were surprised by my reporting in from SDG and NoT EB
section as I usually do. However, I received 150+ "THANK YOU"'s
from stations who only needed SDG for their sweep.
When I told operators I was running QRP, they were usually incredulous.
For me, the two operating surprises came when I received calls from
VE9HF who called in on 28347 at 19:28z and later, when the illusive VY0ERC
called in on 14221 at 23:54z. Unfortunately, some of the E. Canadians were
also illusive, as were KP4, SFL and UTAH - HuH
I will have LoTs of things to say about this gig at: http://WQ6X.Blogspot.com

WT1A
My entry is submitted as Checklog only because I accidentally identified myself as precedence "A"
when, in fact, I should have been "U" from the start. I was tired and thinking A was for assisted
and did not realize my mistake until hours in.
Rather than have all the stations I contacted potentially lose my contact, I continued on as I had
started but used low power on some bands and high on others as an experiment, so I am now submitting
this with knowledge that I incorrectly identified myself.
On the bright side, I got to test some new equipment, make some adjustments to my station and make a
clean sweep.

WV1H
A special thanks to the operators at VY0ERC, for giving us the opportunity to work a clean sweep.
And thanks to all the courteous and polite operators in the contest. Sweepstakes is my favorite
contest each year, had a great time.

WX1O
Proud to have contacted all 85 sections in only 85 contacts for a clean sweep! This required
intensive listening and never calling CQ!

WX4DAT
New to the Sweepstakes contesting but didnt take long to get in the groove. Enjoyed the competition
and appreciate all stations that participated. 73 Danny WX4DAT

WY2K
First sweepstakes/second contest ever!

Gave out wrong exchange - I was Class A (<100W) but said B for the first few contacts before I
realized it, so I kept B for the whole contest.
