I really enjoyed the ARRL ROUNDUP RTTY. I could have done better, but you can't always get what you want. It's a shame I lost a few hours, but in the end, sleep and fatigue prevailed. And especially on 10, 15, and 20 meters, I couldn't use the Hexbeam because it had some problems and is no longer on the mast. It's in the garden being repaired. So my antenna setup was as follows: 10, 15, and 20 meters: Inverted L for 160 meters, which I tuned with a tuner here in the shack. 40 meters: vertical dipole with feedpoint 14 meters above the ground 80 meters: full-size ¼-wave vertical. It's a shame, because on the high bands, the vertical allowed me to transmit, but receiving was a real disaster. I don't know how many multipliers I lost, but it was definitely a lot. Just look at the vast majority of American and Canadian states and districts, which were built in 40 meters. And that says it all. On the other hand, I confess, I had a lot of fun. A lot, a lot, a lot. |

There comes a time in one’s life where sleep is more attractive than QSO’s…I have reached this point. Please do not misunderstand, I love contesting (especially CW and RTTY) but a point has been reached where sleep becomes more alluring than QSO’s. Utter amazement is the best way I can describe the 48-hour operators (i.e., N6MJ, KL9A, K5ZD, N5DX, and many others) who possess qualities that most of us do not have. While I would never attempt this myself (nor do I desire to), I truly admire those who are able and willing to do it. Going into this contest I planned to operate 24 hours with the singular goal of beating last year’s score. My station remains the same as last year; both the HexBeam and EFHW antennas are positioned lower than optimal height but continue to operate effectively. The contest began slowly with 31 contacts in the first hour on 10m, then 72 more over the next two hours on 10m and 15m. Switching to 20m at 21:00z brought better results; after ten minutes of S&P, I found a run frequency at 14.095 and made 189 QSOs over the next 1.5 hours. I'm still not sure why, but the HexBeam is loud to both coasts, especially the East Coast. It's impressive to be able to maintain a run frequency for so long with just one hundred watts and a beam set around thirty feet high. After that session, I alternated between running and doing some search and pounce, finally wrapping up at 03:30z with a total of 431 QSOs. The original plan was to get six to seven hours of sleep, attempt forty meters before dawn, and then gear up for what I hoped would be a strong European run on the high bands—though that never happened. Instead, I ended up sleeping until 13:15z and spent nearly the entire day at the radio. While I enjoyed a few good runs, I ended up doing more search and pounce than I would have liked, but that’s how things went. In total, I wrapped up with 848 QSOs, ninety-six multipliers, and a claimed score of 81,408, surpassing last year’s claimed score of 75,532. Here is my breakdown: Band QSOs Pts Sec DXC 3.5 5 5 1 0 7 82 82 4 4 14 413 413 20 5 21 248 248 14 13 28 100 100 16 19 Total 848 848 55 41 Score: 81,408 - Operating time: Approximately 20 hours I continue to enjoy using the online scoreboard. When I finished at 03:30z, I was eighth. After taking a sleep break, I slipped down to 18th place, but throughout the day I steadily climbed back up towards the top ten. Seeing my progress motivates me to keep operating; otherwise, I would likely finish stop operating much earlier. It was quite a thrill to have K5ZD call me on two bands. I remember working Randy back in the 1990’s when 2026 seemed far, far away. Even though I was away from the hobby for an extended period, it is great to see he has stayed active over the years. I really appreciate all the contacts—thank you so much. Looking forward to NAQP CW this weekend! 73, Jerry, AB5SE |

Operated first part of contest remotely as an experiment, which was mostly successful. The only feature that did not work as expected was "mouse rt click = enter", which was annoying but not critical. An RFI glitch locked up the radio at one point, which ended the remote experiment as I could not power cycle the radio until I got home. Ther were a couple of strong stations that would not decode the exchange properly. It was consistent across two RTTY engines and multiple repeats. Conditions were generally very good and I was able to stick to strong signals for the most part. Wish I had more time to spend on this one! |

First outing on RTTY in a number of years, I really enjoyed the event. Thanks to all for qsos & attempts, particularly on the Sunday evening here when propagation fell apart. Propagation wasn't stable, fluctuating up and down, so there were some dull periods. DX stations were more difficult to contact than usual. The 10-meter band offered only few opportunities. Nevertheless, I improved on my score from last year 2025, making 110 QSOs and 4500 more points. |

Recently PSK modes are been forbidden in RTTY roundup contest, the only ARRL contest were they ere
admitted. Even before very very few stations used PSK during roundup, so no much difference has been
noted (and escluding FT* mode form contest is always a good thing indeed!)
The new ARRL Digital Contest didn't solve the issue because it has immediately become an FT*
modes contest, nothing interesting there.
A contest without progressive number exchange is a non-sense; US stations should exchange WAS as
well as in roundup contest. A list of usable modes should be published in the rules as well. Qth
locator exhange has been adopted only due to ft modes, but ft modes if are so limited should not be
privileged at all. At the oppositie ft modes should be modified to be compliant with contest rules!
There is no issue at all in PSK or similar mode (JS8 too) to exchange data as in any other contest.
The need for an ARRL PSK contest esplained.
After more than 20 years a serious PSK contest with same rules appliying in RTTY WW contest is
still missing.
A contest with same rules of Roundup but limited to PSK modes will be of great interest. Same
rules means that power limit (available in other psk contests) shall not apply for High Power
category. By this way all big contest stations partecipating to RTTY contest will be attract to
partecipate in this new PSK contest, while are missing from present psk contests due to theirs
rules. Since PSK modes are by far more efficient than old RTTY, there will be a lot of fun for small
stations working the world with a few watts as well ! For small station RTTY is very challenging and
sometimes frustrating since 100W has to be considered a barely minimum power for RTTY dx.
Power limitation is sometimes addressed by other psk contest organisers due to splatter nearby
stations. This cannot be a parameter since modern rigs have filters able to isolate a single PSK63
signal. The real issue nobody is addressing is that for inexplicable reasons in psk contest stations
are reluctant to leave the psk frequency allocation 14.070, 21.070 and to use the rtty frequencies
ususally empty when not used during RTTY contests.
The mistake again are the current psk contest rules indicating the frequency segment that is not
adequate at all for contest (this is true expecially for 20 and 15 meters where at 14.074 and 21.074
there are FT* mode frequency allocations, in 40 meters here in Europe psk freq. is 7040 so there is
a lot of empty freq before ft8 frequency, in fact here the stations are more distribuited over the
band during psk contests)
Frequency allocation for a seriuos PSK contest should be indicated and there is a lot of space
in unused rtty allocation (e.g. 14080-14120 as used during RTTY contests). In this way normal cq
frequencies like 14.070 21.070 etc could remain clear for non contest psk operations.
PSK63 should be the "default" mode, but it would be a mistake to limit to only this mode, since
PSK31 could be useful in difficult conditions and for low power stations, as well as PSK125 is
faster than RTTY when conditions allow.
PSK contest adopting RTTY one rules would be a great fun for any kind of station!
After FT* modes introduction wonderful PSK modes have declined without any serious reason; that
is not good at all. A new ARRL WW PSK contest even if 20 years late, could greatly improve the
situation expecially with propagation conditions getting better.

Well, I had _planned_ to be SO2R for the RoundUp... I did test having two copies of everything decoding and was able to switch between the two. However... I failed to realize that I could not hear both at the same time - DOH! That makes it kinda hard to run in one window, while S&P in the other. Oh well... back to SO1R for this one. could not make any real ground against the ops in front of me. I thought I was doing pretty well, but obviously they were doing better! Good on 'em! low noise although 15 was a bit of a disappointment. 20m was the money band followed closely by 40. 80m was showing some promise but I faded on Sat. and could not stick with the overnight to take full advantage. I blew way past my score from last year (LP) by over 80k points! I guess power does matter. ;-) regardless of where I pointed the beam. thanks for the Qs! 73, and see you in the next one! |

K3CCR is the club station at the Collington continuing-care retirement community at FM 18OW in MD, just east of DC. I (N3UM) did SOHP Assisted in the 2026 ARRL RTTY RU. W5MPB was in OH, so we could not do Multi-2 HP as we did in the 2024 ARRL RTTY RU. And a slow leak in a tire on my car made it go flat after a few hours. So, I walked the 0.2 miles from my cottage to the shack and back. But, that was cold and risky after dark, along a road with cars. I did 1 nom. 4-hr round trip Sat, & 2 on Sun. Walking, setup, & shut down gave a net 10.4 hrs on. From 1835Z start, I got 52 20-M Qs & 16 15-M Qs by 2035Z + mostly EU DX mults. Then on 40 M 2045-2158Z QRT I got 42 Qs & many St/Pv. I had 110 Qs & 52 mults, 26 of each. On my way at sunup, 1243-1332Z I got 36 40-M Qs w/JA and 9 St/Pv mults, incl. VT out to OR, WA, & BC. From 1350-1458Z I got 8 20-M Qs, 27 15-M Qs, and 7 Ctys, nearly all EU. Then I got 26 10-M Qs 1504-1541Z & 7 more Ctys, EU + a few SA & NA. On 20 M 1547-1608Z QRT I got 6 Qs for 213 total. Back from lunch 1828-2117Z, I got 57 Qs on 20 M & 1 in CT on a ~dead 40 M, then 16 Qs on 15 M 2122- 2200Z QRT. I went hard for mults, & got 20, 14 of them St/Pv. I missed just 6 of 49; ME, DE, NM, OK, UT, & WY; few ops QRV there. |

Long live RTTY. This contest was fun as usual. I found all bands 80 through 10 meters to have a lot of activity, although I did not find as many DX stations as I would have liked, perhaps due to band conditions. Had a great time! Equipment: Yaesu FT-710 at 75W, 80M OCF Dipole, N1MM+MTTY+2tone. Conditions: I started on 20 and it became apparent right away it was going to be a slug fest, wall to wall stations, and I found condx on 20 to be kind of erratic all weekend, at least for me. Moved to 15 in the afternoon and it became the daytime workhouse and my rates started to increase at a faster clip, also moved 10 and found good condx there on Sat. I mined these two bands all weekend during the day. In the later afternoon, I moved back to 20 for a bit but found the same condx, little elbow room and erratic. On 10 and 15 basically, if I could hear em I could work em. In the evening I switched to 40 and found it noisy and busy but was able to move through it with good Q rates then about 9pm local moved to 80 and worked a few stations but it was pretty slow. Then back to 40m for another hour-ish and called it a night. Early Sunday morning started on 80 for an hour or so and found it hadn't really improved, worked a handful of stations and switched to 40 which like the night before was busy but able to work thru the band with better Q rates. There was a lag in the morning where 40 started waning and I had to go to 20 earlier then I wanted to, and hunted and pecked there for a bit. About 10:30am I moved to the daytime bands again (15/10) and found 15 to be really active and solid for hours. 10 was good too... when it was on, I found condx there to be up/down either it was on or it wasn't. I remember looking at the waterfall at one point and there was nothing, nope, nada activity. HAHA. I mined those 2 bands for most of the day switching back\forth between them. Then ventured back to 20 and started on the low end and worked up to where activity ceased and again it was spotty, some stations I could work, some I couldn't and some took persistence. Observations: I got no propagation to S. America at all. I expected more JAs on 10/15 in the afternoons but did not hear that many. TLDR: Had a great time! 10 and 15 carried the day. 40 ruled the night and morning. Missed my friends in the Far East and Southern hemisphere. |

I had a really nice time with this contest. The property owner of the apartment allowed me to put up a wire antenna from the apartment to the back of the property. Temporary for the weekend. The antenna was an inverted-L with a height above ground of about 10 to 15 feet. It was routed under the utility and power lines at the apartment and the back end of the property. There was plenty of QRN. The radio is the Icom IC-705, set to 5 watts. The Icom AH-4 antenna tuner matched the 70 foot long wire at the feedpoint. There were some ground radials in the flower garden, between the apartment and a sidewalk; but not many. And I did a great job in imagining I was operating at the legal limit. |

Bands were just OK. Signals from EU path on 10 and 15 had fast qsb Sunday morning making some contacts difficult with repeats. Some qsb would dip from S9 to S1 and back during the length of a transmission. Most DX was usual western EU received here. I did work an EX9 early am Sunday on 20m, loud and clear. The only other DX surprise I worked was Tunisia on 40m about 30 minutes after local sunset, loud and in the clear. In general, it seemed country representation in EU was down a bit from past years. I missed any Asia, PAC or JA openings that may have happened on 10 and 15 Saturday afternoon/evening as I went to 40m early searching VE/U.S. sections. I did at least make on JA contact on 40m Sunday morning just after sunrise. As much as I wanted to put in a full time effort, I was only able to operate 3 hours in the early AM Sunday, after putting in about 11.5 hours Saturday from the start, due to family commitments. Using my new FT-710 with EFHW. It's been two years since my last RTTY contest. N1MM+ in FSK. 73. |

Just couldn't get into the contest mode. |

One of my favourite contests. With my humble 100W and an EFHW that barely clears the roof I enjoyed a nice easy QSO pace while picking up a bit of DX along the way! |

RTTY RU was a great way to start the new year of Contesting. |

I love RTTY. A similarly inclined friend describes Fone contests as, "Those shouty ones." 100 W on 1/4 wave mono-band whips on the car. Limited antennas indeed. My trusty converted CB antenna for 15 m failed. A friend kindly dropped by with a 17' telescopic which I pressed into service. By the end of Saturday local I was pushing for 100 Qs and deciding that I wished to double that by contest end as well as to try for a score of over 10k. I began to apply some thoughts and comments I'd picked up from a recent (my first real) MM at VE7RAC - in the RAC Winter 2025. It did help for increasing my rate. At contest end goals such as I focus on were met. I had a fine time. Used but the RTTY features in the IC-7300. Tnx to all for the contacts. |

I forgot to write down my DX partners' serial numbers. This was my first time using FLdigi for something serious. |

Thanks for the RTTY contacts & fun on the radio. Tnx to the ARRL for sponsoring the contest and processing the logs/results. 73 - Dan, W1QK |

Thanks for all the QSOs. We choose the MM category only to eliminate band change restrictions. This was a fully remote event with John in LI NY, Zev in NNJ and Marty in NC. We Still have some quirks to work out, but a very successful operation. Rigs: Icom IC-7610, Amps: RF Power RF2K-S, Alpha 87A Antennas: F12 C36XL @ 55 ft, F12 C19 @ 50 ft, 80m Dipole. Yaesu G-2800 Rotators controlled by Green Heron RT21 and MicroHam ARCO controllers. Logging: N1MM+ Remote Software: Rustdesk and Sonobus QSL via LoTW or SASE direct to CBA or W2 Bureau. PLEASE NO E-QSL - TNX |

Great contest under great band conditions (no lightning crashes..hi) No rotator for my beam, but I still made a lot of q's off the side Dipoles on 40/80 Tnx for all the Q's |

What fun!!! Got almost all the bugs out Saturday and hit it off and on Sunday. The challange of QRP and a Single Wire got me! IC-705 remote and a 135' EFHW @ 40'. Can't wait until next year! |

This is another QRP RTTY RU Run from Ramona. This was an internet dropout riddled RTTY RU. The goal was to set a 1st-time SOU QRP record for the SDIE section (which WAS accomplished). Unfortunately, spotty internet made RTTY running completely impossible on Sunday afternoon. I guess running from my Alameda office was not such a good idea after all. This was my first time operating RTTY and my first contest using MMTTY, so there was a definite learning curve. I ran into a significant issue the first night after switching to 40 meters—I could not complete any contacts, and while transmitting my decode window showed gibberish instead of my callsign and CQ text. I shut down for the night at that point. After some reading, I learned that RFI can cause issues with computers and digital interfaces. The next morning I added ferrite beads to all computer and interface cables, and the problem on 40 meters completely disappeared. Once resolved, the remainder of the contest went smoothly. I do not have a permanent station at my home QTH and normally operate POTA, so this contest was run using my portable station setup. I used an end-fed half-wave antenna that I typically use for POTA, supported by a portable mast from HRD Industries (formerly Ham Radio Dude / Dude Tested). When the contest ended, the antenna came down and everything was packed away—POTA style—keeping the landlord happy 😉. Solar conditions were quite good overall. A solar storm on Friday before the contest subsided and the atmosphere recovered nicely in time for the operating period. Weather at my Mishawaka, Indiana QTH was cold but cooperative, with temperatures in the 20s to 30s°F and no precipitation or significant wind. This effort provided a solid baseline score to beat next year and was a great learning experience in RTTY operation, station grounding, and RFI management using a portable-style station. |

This was my first serious contest since a serious health issue happended on Memorial day last yearr. I hope to do even better by ARRL DX CW contest..... It was fun watching Onlinescoarboard I sure wish I could of stayed till the finish.. |

One of my favorite contests... Missed DE and WY, no one home Almost too many people on 20 Meters so it was hard to find a decent hole to operate. Sometimes it was faster to S&P but Running was fun. See you in the next one. Bill |

I have been licensed since 1976 and always wanted to try RTTY but for many reasons (mostly old radio's and no sound card equipment for it) I never got around to actually trying it or any of the HF digital modes included FT8 until this year with a recently purchased Signalink and my Yaesu FT-920. I made my first ever RTTY contacts in this past weekends contest and I'm forever hooked! Had a blast figuring it all out as I went! |

This RTTY RU event had two purposes: 1) Demonstrating RTTY radio to a couple of aspiring radio amateurs, and 2) setting a Multi-OP (LP) high score record for the SDIE (San Diego) section. Having people sit at the keyboard in a RTTY contest, made them complicit operators - they were both impressed. Both goals were accomplished. Later Sunday morning, I switched operations to run as W6R after which the internet connection got the jitters making Sunday afternoon impossible to operate. Fortunately, WQ6X got enough OP time to set the SDIE record. Read all about it at: http://WQ6X.Blogspot.com. |
