The first weekend of the contest I operated from Frazier Mtn. DM04MS. Camped out on the mountain for 3 nights and had quite a few visitors interested in what I was doing. Thanks to all the SBMS members who went out and operated, the activity was fantastic ! For the second weekend I chose to build a new rover setup since the new vehicle doesn't have a sunroof which I used in the previous roving setup. After spending two weeks building a remote controlled az/el rotator for the truck bed I ran out of time and took it out without any prior testing. Needless to say there was a bug or two but I made a few QSOs in any case and had a great time. There's always next year. |

This was my first time on 24-GHZ thanks to Chris, KG6CIH and Fred, K1FMS. |

Thanks to Herbert AF4JF, Ron KO0Z and John WB9PNU, got on 10 GHz for the first time. Pretty cool! We set up in a park in Louisiana, MO on Sunday afternoon after torrential downpours in St. Louis, and had a blast. Was able to work in western Wisconsin, a distance of around 240 miles. Thanks Bruce W9FZ and Janice KA9VVQ for the contacts. |

Only operated part time from home for this years contest on first weekend and just for 5 quick local contacts the second weekend. Still had fun and 10 ghz amazes me with the distance that is achievable. 73 Jim N2JMH |

Enjoyed working all the stations and especially the moving stations. It's really slow if your a fixed home station. Lots of spare time. Thanks for all the Q's and 73 to all. |

My first 10G contest after moving to Texas. Great DX, great operators and amazing conditions for several long haul contacts. I'm Looking forward to many more. |

On August 17, 2024, N6MI operated solo in the 10 GHz contest from Heaps Peak, San Bernardino County, California (DM14kf). The QTH was on a dirt road between Big Bear Lake and Arrowhead Lake. This was a one-day operation from the N6MI van. My gear was a shiny new Icom IC-905, a CX-10G 10 GHz transverter (about 500 milliwatts), and small parabolic antenna AH-109PB. The antenna was mounted about 13 feet above the ground. My best DX was 323 kilometers -- pretty nice for 10 GHz. I also worked a Nevada station (way cool). The Friday night sunset was special. Here is another shot of twilight, with Lake Arrowhead on the right. A special thanks goes out to the Cactus Intertie System for their support. |

This was my first attempt at a microwave contest. I had prior commitments for the first weekend, and the "Honey to do" list for the second weekend left me with little time to find a good spot to operate from. Peter VA3ELE encouraged me to try from my driveway, and boy was I pleasantly surprised! Conditions were great. I was able to work the trio of VA3ELE/VA3TO/VE3SST at 5 different stops on their rove. The big highlight was working K0SM & KE2IAZ, and a 200km haul to KB8VAO all on FM! Looking forward to getting in more activity on the microwave bands. Thank you to all who worked me, and for the encouragement to get on the air! 73 de VA3HES |

Only my second time on 10GHz, and first time in the 10G contest. Wow what a blast! RS buzz got my old "aurora" ears going, and worked some really long haul stuff that way. Thanks to Paul W1GHZ for calling late Sunday from FN41ee, and it took a bit to make the cut at 713 km. Thanks to K1RZ for FM08US and FM19JH, and W2RMA for FN00RG . Thanks to all the rover teams out there in the weather (!) and big thanks to VA3ELE for continuing to bug me to get on 10 Ghz. Next year 10, 24 and 122 G will be running. 73 de ve3ds |

We experienced normal conditions with no rain scatter or tropo enhancements. |

This was a lot of fun. I was hoping to work VA7SC as well. I heard him and he heard me but we lost contact before grids were exchanged. My problem was I was not in in area of cell coverage and I didn't realize he was using 144.220 to coordinate while I was up at 144.250. Nuts. The most interesting event occurred when a couple of Danish visitors stopped by to see what I was doing. I was up near Mowich Lake which is close to Mount Rainier. The interesting thing is they were visiting from Denmark and worked with WIFI design and maintenance so they knew that I was on Microwave. Also one of the other people in the 10 GHz contest was AG6QV who is also from Denmark so they had fun talking to him over 10 GHz. |

August weekend great tropo conditions in eastern South Dakota, Minnesota and north to Winnipeg (VE4). Lots of Rover activity: 89 Q's among 13 Rovers; 3 Q's w/fixed stations. September weekend not so good: WX very unsettled; recurring rain squalls chased us inside several times, propagation very poor unless we able to use rainscatter on Saturday, poor to non-existent tropo, only 7 Q's all day. Sunday no better, again only 7 Q's all day. Oh, well. |
WB2VVV |
WB2VVV is again QRV on 10 GHz, with a 2' dish and 1/4 Watt dish mounted electronics at 70' in FN41cr! It's good to be QRV again, and to be able to support adventurous portable stations from my Rhode Island QTH. I appreciate all of the efforts of those stations I was unsuccessful in working as we tried to make a contact, and especially the efforts of the six (6) stations that I did successfully work. The big lesson I learned is that I worked a lot more people after I installed the dish/equipment on my tower so that I could actually use it, rather than saving it in a box in the basement because my installation would be sub-optimal. My 70' dish height is lower than the height of many trees in the area and my rig is a rather minimal, but I didn't let that stand in the way of getting on the air and trying to make as well as successfully making contacts. 73, Chris WB2VVV |
